About this project
Lighting in a kindergarten has a different role than in an office, shop or family home. Throughout the day, children play, learn, rest and constantly move between different parts of the space. The lighting should not draw unnecessary attention to itself. It should create a pleasant environment, support orientation and naturally complement the architecture.
That is exactly how the lighting solution for Alfa Škôlka in Sereď was developed – a modern space designed with children’s scale, plenty of daylight and a calm interior environment in mind.
When the whole space is designed from a child’s perspective
Alfa Škôlka feels welcoming at first sight. Its architecture works with simplicity, natural zoning, colour and an abundance of daylight.
In an interior like this, overly dominant or technical-looking lighting would not make sense.
The lighting therefore needed to become a natural part of the space – supporting its function and atmosphere without distracting from the architecture itself.
The result is an environment where artificial and natural light work together as one.
Light for play, learning and everyday movement
In a kindergarten, simply meeting the required illuminance level is not enough.
Children spend a large part of the day in the space and their activities are constantly changing. One moment they are sitting at a table, the next they are playing on the floor and then moving between different zones.
For Alfa Škôlka, we therefore worked with soft, uniform light without unnecessary glare.
The lighting helps maintain good visual clarity, supports orientation and avoids distracting contrasts. The individual functional areas therefore remain visually calm and naturally connected.
Lighting that respects the architecture
A good lighting solution does not always have to be the first thing you notice when you enter a room.
At Alfa Škôlka, it is quite the opposite.
The luminaires and lines of light naturally follow the layout, materials and character of the individual rooms. The technical side of the lighting remains visually clean, while the light creates a backdrop for children’s everyday life.
That was an important part of the design – not to compete with the architecture, but to support it.
Playfulness where it belongs
A children’s environment does not have to be only technically correct.
A more expressive and playful layer of lighting is introduced at Alfa Škôlka through decorative solutions from Creative Cables.
Colours, textile cables, soft lines and simple luminaire shapes make it possible to work with design in a way that fits naturally into a child’s world without becoming excessive or distracting.
The more technical part of the concept is complemented by linear lighting solutions from COLORS.
The result is not a space filled with many different luminaires, but a coherent lighting concept in which every element has its place.
Light as part of a coordinated design
On projects like this, it is important that lighting is not treated separately only at the end of construction.
At Alfa Škôlka, the lighting solution was developed in coordination with the architecture and the other disciplines involved in the project.
The architectural design was prepared by ROOKS s.r.o., construction was carried out by Hrachostav s.r.o., and LEDCO contributed to the design and implementation of the interior lighting.
This allowed the lighting to follow the building concept naturally instead of having to be adapted to it afterwards.
When good lighting does not need to shout
What we like about Alfa Škôlka is precisely that the lighting is not a dominant feature for its own sake.
It is part of a space where children are meant to feel comfortable.
During the day it works together with natural light. When artificial lighting is needed, it provides uniform and comfortable lighting conditions. And where the interior can afford a little playfulness, colour and decorative detail come into play.
Perhaps that is why a spontaneous sentence came up during our visit:
“If I were a child, this is exactly the kind of place where I’d want to spend every day.”
For a space created for children, that is a pretty good assessment.
